How did that turn into a film so slow I had to switch it off half way through in case I reached menopause before the end? It doesn't bode well for Angels and Demons, which sounds like it'll be a fortnight long and filmed mainly at pocket height. The only real virtue of Da Vinci Code book was that it was a quick read.

Mainly, though, I'm with the church because Dan Brown's books are rubbish, and we have to stop encouraging him. If Hollywood made a film about someone I base my world view around (say, Michael Palin) that turned one of my fundamental beliefs about him on its head, I'd be unlikely to let them make their next film in my house. I can understand the Catholic church's upset.
